NOUVEL RELEASE MARCH 2026
Born in 1964 in northeastern Brazil, Chico César is a multi-instrumentalist and champion of universality who embraces all the rhythms of the world. A former journalist and author of several collections of poetry, he crafts lyrics that put his talent at the service of his commitment to culture (he was secretary of culture for his home state of Paraíba for several years), the environment, oppressed minorities, and Indigenous and Black people, victims of the same racism he himself has suffered.
This is important to know, even if you don't necessarily understand the lyrics of his songs. But the fighter is first and foremost a complete musician, a wonderful melodist, singer, producer, and performer. He's a live wire... And for all that, he is one of the major figures on the current Brazilian music scene. So, if you were stranded on a desert island, you'd have to remember to take his entire discography with you, because with Chico César, there's nothing to throw away.
In May 1995, Chico César surprised Brazil with the release of his first album, “Aos Vivos”: a solo live recording featuring only vocals and guitar, in a format that was rare and daring for a new artist. The Paraibano won over critics and audiences alike, transforming this work into a masterpiece of Brazilian popular music.
Thirty years later, Chico César celebrates Aos Vivos with a special tour and a stop in Portugal. The singer-songwriter revisits the songs that have marked his career in solo acoustic versions: from “Beradêro,” the song that opens the album, to the classics “Mama África” and “À Primeira Vista,” as well as songs such as “Saharienne,” “Mulher Eu Sei,” and “Clandestino.”
